As you can see, there are options for getting creative with Elemental representations. While it’s helpful to follow tradition here, those with smaller altars may need to scale it down a bit. One possibility is to use a crystal associated with each Element or an herb bundle containing one herb for each of the Elements. This can be a great strategy for rituals on the fly—when traveling, for example—and is a good way to start learning about the energetic properties of crystals and herbs.

Wand

Used for millennia in religious and magical rites, the wand has long been associated with Witches and Witchcraft in popular culture, and like its fellow symbol, the broom, it has been quite misunderstood. As with all magical tools, it is not the wand that causes magical transformation, but the Witch, who energetically charges the wand with magical intention. Its linear form makes it an excellent tool for directing energy in ritual. The wand is often used to draw the circle and invoke the Goddess and God and may be used to draw magical symbols in the air or on the ground. Considered sacred to the God, the wand is associated with the Element of Air, in some traditions, and the Element of Fire in others.
